If my father where alive today he would be celebrating his 78th Birthday. I am sure my mother would have had something planned for them. Either they would be travelling in their RV or celebrating with friends and family.
Today however I like to imagine they are spending it with each other. Holding hands, catching up, asking lots of questions, and talking about their grandkids and great grandchildren. I like to think they are perfect in the image of God. No worries, or sorrows, no suffering, or pain. I can only imagine they are somewhere so beautiful no words in existence can begin to describe this wondrous and glorious place. Place only heavens can see. A place someday I hope to be.
Ten years is a long time to be away from the one who loves you the most. My heart is happy knowing they are together and there is no more waiting. No more waiting for someone to stop by, no more waiting to be held again, or waiting to leave this earth.
In John 14, Jesus comforts his disciples by telling them not to be troubled. I wonder if my father ever whispered into my mother’s ears………….”Don’t worry honey everything will be ok”. Jesus continued to say, “Trust in God; trust also in me”. Did God whisper those same words to my mother?
John 14:2-4 “In my Father’s house are many rooms; if it were not so, I would have told you. I am going there to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am. You know the way to the place where I am going.”
My father spent most of his life preparing rooms for my mother. It is no wonder why he left us first. I like to think he was preparing a place for my mother. I like to think on August 11th God, my father and many others who have passed before us came back to take her to her final room. This time instead of my father being exhausted with a heavy heart, I like to think he was well rested, had a big smile, a little bit of laughter and goofiness and a whole lot of LOVE.
I like to think my father prepared a place only heavens can see, but someday I will be!
